What is worth selling, and what to donate instead

A clear-out bogs down when every object gets a debate. You do not need a resale strategy for every mug. Sell what has a market; donate the rest.

Usually worth selling

• Electronics: phones, tablets, cameras, lenses, headphones, game consoles.
• Tools, especially name brands and cordless kits with batteries.
• Musical gear: instruments, pedals, synths, microphones, recording equipment.
• Kitchen appliances people research first: stand mixers, espresso machines.
• Recognizable clothing, bags, and shoes in good condition.
• Hobby gear: bikes, camping, fishing, board games, collectibles.
• Anything with a model number. If someone can search for the exact item, it has a better chance of selling.

Usually not worth the listing

• Fast-fashion clothing and everyday basics.
• Bulky, low-value furniture that costs more to ship than it sells for.
• Common DVDs, CDs, and books, unless sold as a lot.
• Broken items without a clear market for parts.
• Promotional items, generic mugs, and mass-market decor.

For the items in between, check the market once

Unsure? Check comparable sold listings. A few real sales at a decent price justify a listing. Thin results or low prices mean donate it and move on.

The goal is a home with less in it, not a perfect spreadsheet. A price check makes the call.
